Focus on type proportion, hierarchy, legibility, composition and structure. Emphasis is placed on the formal aspects of designing with typographic elements and effective visual communication using letterforms. Solve typographic design problems and develop aesthetics.
James Bowman has worked as an Art Director and Designer in various capacities, from agency to in-house, over the past 20 years. He currently maintains a freelance practice doing print and digital work for a select client list. Passionate about education, he began teaching design in 2002. Seeing so many students flourish and succeed ranks among his most rewarding life experiences. James has been an active part of the creative community through volunteer work and as a past member of the AIGA San Diego board of directors. Outside of the office, he enjoys surfing, vintage drums, guitars, Blue Note records, good tea, and Saturday mornings with his wife and daughter.
Min Choi is a passionate designer & educator. Leveraging over 13 years of brand identity, corporate communications, design for entertaining, environmental, infographics, packaging to interactive design, she has won numerous design awards, and owns Min Choi Design. Min imparts her knowledge and love of design to the next generation of designers by teaching at City, SDSU and abroad. She has served AIGA SD as an Education Director, Vice President, and a current faculty advisor for City College student group.
Sean is a professor, passionate designer and obsessive typophile who teaches a wide range of classes at San Diego City College. He also helps direct and manage the graphic design program and its administrative responsibilities. His courses have included portfolio, advanced typography, portfolio building, and basic graphic design. He brings his wealth of experiences and insight to help produce many of the award winning portfolios from City. He has worked for The Daily Aztec, Jonathan Segal Architecture, Parallax Visual Communication and Silent Partner. He attended San Diego City College, San Diego State and completed his masters at Savannah College of Art and Design.
